Steve Danyluk wrote on CNN.com that the Obama administration did not follow proper protocol after the attempted bombing on Detroit-bound Flight 253 Christmas Day, despite Obama’s statement that, “once the suspect attempted to take down Flight 253, it’s clear Homeland Security and Aviation Security took all appropriate actions.”

Danyluk, a commercial airline pilot who was flying over the Atlantic for six hours during the same time as Flight 253, said that he did not receive any information regarding AbdulMutallab’s alleged terrorist attack until he landed, at which time he found a report on CNN through his iPhone.

This, says Danyluk, is a clear violation of the procedures supposed to be intiated in the event of a terror attempt, and is asking the Obama administration to review post-handling procedures in addition to the intelligence failures Obama has already begun to review. According to Danyluk, the federal Domestic Events Network–ultimately a responsibility of the Department of Homeland Security–was charged with communicating real-time threats to all commercial pilots. Danyluk asked, “So why, after eight years and billions of dollars, was the information concerning the incident available to me only on my iPhone?”

Clearly disgusted with the mishandling of the situation, he said, “I’m left with the sickening sense that after 9/11, the government spent horrific amounts of money to create the ‘mother of all’ pre-mishap plans, but never effectively tested it. Why? Because unlike the military, where commanding officers rise up through the ranks based on professional competency, our government operates on a different model.”

Who is more like the Nazi Party?

Nazi Propaganda Poster

Nazi Propaganda Poster

Godwin’s law states (paraphrased) that the longer an argument ensues, the probability of one side accusing the other of behaving like Nazis reaches 1 (a perfect probability). Despite its humorous pretenses, this law has certainly been proven in the recent debate over health care reform. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) accused protestors of carrying swastikas; Rep. Brian Baird (D-WA) compared their actions to “Brown Shirt tactics.” Prominent conservative radio host, Rush Limbaugh, in turn made similarities between Obama’s health care logo and Nazi propaganda, and even made comparisons between the Nazi party and the Democratic party.

What makes the argument confusing is when most of us learned about the political spectrum in a publicly funded educational institution, we were taught that Communists are on the far left of the spectrum and Fascists/Nazis are on the far right. This is not accurate by any means if one accepts a more modern definition of the spectrum that puts increased government involvement on the left and less government involvement on the right. In other words, Communists would still be on the far left, but Anarchists would be on the extreme right.

But which party is more like the Nazis? Is it the left-wing Democrats or the right-wing Republicans. Where does fascism really lie? To shed light on this argument, I have listed the 25 point program adopted by Adolf Hitler and his National Socialist German Workers’ (Nazi) Party, and compared them with modern-day viewpoints from mainstream political affiliations. Scores are tabulated at the end of each point.

1. We demand the union of all Germans in a Great Germany on the basis of the principle of self-determination of all peoples.

Principles of self-determination is a very right-wing mindset, as is American Exceptionalism. However, the word “demand” (fordern in German) is a very authoritarian verb and would require a large-scale government to enforce, which is typically a left-wing idea. Nevertheless, the principle is right-wing. RW-1, LW-0

2. We demand that the German people have rights equal to those of other nations; and that the Peace Treaties of Versailles and St. Germain shall be abrogated.

This assertion is politically benign, as it is only demanding the basic rights of a state. Its demand that the treaties of Versaille and St.Germain-en-laye be rescinded was an attempt to regain its standing as a legitimate country. Those treaties broke up the German Empire—which is important in the next point—and redrew the map of Europe; they forced Germany to accept guilt in starting World War I, a highly debatable attestation at best; they also limited the size of the army Germany was allowed to maintain. Point number two does not reflect any specific view on the political spectrum; it only wished to remove the implication of international subservience that Germany was currently under. RW-1, LW-0

3. We demand land and territory (colonies) for the maintenance of our people and the settlement of our surplus population.

This appears to be a right-wing attitude, as that spectrum recently has been viewed as imperial and expansionist. However, this demand was an extension of the previous point. Germany wanted its land that was hers prior to World War I in order to feed (Ger. Ernährung) its outlying loyalists. Be that as it may, its smack of neo-conservatism forces a score. RW-2, LW-0

4. Only those who are our fellow countrymen can become citizens. Only those who have German blood, regardless of creed, can be our countrymen. Hence no Jew can be a countryman.

Irrelevant in American politics. Some would argue that racism and anti-Semitism is a right-wing characteristic, but they do so on the assumption that Nazism and fascism are right-wing philosophies. Stalin’s Soviet Union killed more Jews than Hitler did, but that does not mean a left-wing Communist philosophy is racist. Despite common portrayals in mainstream media, no American political party can claim they have conquered racism nor accuse the other of harboring it. RW-2, LW-0

5. Those who are not citizens must live in Germany as foreigners and must be subject to the law of aliens.

Allowing non-citizens to live within the political boundaries of a state is generally a left-wing position, as the seemingly popular opinion among the right is to deport all those who are in the country illegally. In regards to aliens with visas, neither spectrum in America holds any prominent posits on a different rule of law to which they must subject themselves. RW-2, LW-1

Obama’s Middle Eastern Problem

Obama has fashioned himself as the harbinger of peace. So what will he do when those who do not seek peace impose their beliefs on his plans as Al Qaeda recently reaffirmed? Regardless of his actions, no matter what he does, no matter how well he speaks, no matter whom he allies himself with, there will always be an opposing force. Obama must decide what is best for the American people as a whole, not Washington, not Wall Street, not even Main Street. He must decide what is best for America as a nation, not America as individuals.

Incidentally, that decision, whatever it is, will cost American lives, whether directly or indirectly. If Obama chooses to continue the War on Terror, Americans will continue to lose their lives. If Obama chooses to withdraw from an unstable Iraq in order to focus on Afghanistan, Iran will invade Iraq and expand their boundaries under the revived slogan “The Road to Jerusalem goes through Baghdad” (an Iraninan slogan originally coined during the Iran-Iraq war, not an American slogan supporting Iraqi Freedom); eventually, we’ll be back in Iraq losing American lives, protecting Israel or some economic interest we deem necessary. Even if Obama were to withdraw out of the region completely as the extremists demand, the aggressiveness of Islam extremism would eventually attempt to proselytize America, by force if necessary (Spain and the Byzantine Empire are good historical examples of this). So regardless of his decisions, American lives will be lost.

The irony is that his supporters may not understand this as readily as his opponents. Those millions of starry-eyed, media-fed Americans that bought into his whole idea of change, thinking he could bring World Peace, are in for a huge surprise. Thankfully, Obama has repeatedly stated his intentions to target and destroy Al Qaeda targets. But he may have backed himself into a corner, as that could eventually cause him to go down the exact same road as George W. Bush. Seeking to “stamp out” Al Qaeda completely could lead to an invasion of Pakistan or Iran, a reoccupation of an abandoned Iraq, or an invasive policy of domestic-terror investigation. A pragmatist will realize that Obama has very tough decisions to make, much as President Bush did; one should hope Obama’s decisions do not invite further terror by making concessions to an unappeasable opponent.

Many have likened Obama to Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Allow me to conclude by quoting them both:

“I welcome the Muslim world’s accurate perception that I am interested in opening up dialogue and interested in moving away from the unilateral policies of George Bush.”
-Barack Obama

“No man can tame a tiger into a kitten by stroking it. There can be no appeasement with ruthlessness. There can be no reasoning with an incendiary bomb.”
-Franklin Delano Roosevelt

Obama will save the Planet (The Liberal Paradox)

President-elect Obama affirmed his commitment to stop anthropogenic global warming by reducing carbon dioxide emissions eighty percent by 2050. Furthermore, he plans to spend an additional $150 billion in energy-saving technology, the New York Times reported in a recent article. According to this article, Obama promises to “reverse the warming of the atmosphere.”

Obama is also quoted as saying, “My presidency will mark a new chapter in America’s leadership on climate change that will strengthen our security and create millions of new jobs in the process.”

Environmentalists have found a friend in the new President-elect. He will contribute to the global hysteria that the concern over climate change has caused, which fits in perfectly with his idea of change. Despite the growing evidence that man-made global warming is false, politicians continue to tout their support of that theory. Rather than attempt to discuss the global warming hoax, we need to understand why the hoax has been successful. (James A. Peden provides a great analysis of global warming at http://www.middlebury.net/op-ed/global-warming-01.html.)

Generally, those who support the anthropogenic global warming theory lean left on the political spectrum. It’s easy to understand why when we examine their fundamental—although paradoxical—ideologies of governmental involvement and their advocacy of the importance of individualism.

This may sound overly simplistic and conspirative, but the general induction from foundational motivations are sound.

GOVERNMENT GROWTH AND GLOBALIZATION

According to the left, government involvement is a good thing. It should not only help to preserve law and order, it should help to regulate business, banking, social fluidity, and, of course, the environment. But National Government has fallen short of their expectations. They recognize the ultimate governmental limitations that are inherent with sovereignty, namely other sovereign nations. So the answer to this problem, in their altruistic quest toward world peace, is a form of world government capable of regulating sovereignty.

Global warming offers a solution to this case, much as an alien invasion would. It provides a problem that poses a threat not just to one or two countries, but to the entire world. Because of this imminent threat of self-destruction the World must come together in order to provide for the common defense.  Global regulation is needed in order to insure global tranquility and promote the global welfare. And without a worldwide crisis, there will never be a prospect of a one-world leader. I don’t doubt liberals believe global warming is legitimate, but they may be more skeptical if it was suddenly proven that government regulation caused excessive CO2 emissions…

INDIVIDUALISM

Since the popularization of Darwin’s theory of natural selection, man has adopted an increasingly egocentric attitude. The idea that humans exist only by the process of elimination, rather than divine providence, puts us in a mode of self-preservation and eliminates the plausible notion of accountability to a higher power. Also, with this paradigm comes the desideration for individual importance. If we are the masters of our own destiny, if there is no supernatural intervention, we theoretically have the power to accomplish anything, and we theoretically have the power to prevent anything.

Ultimately, in order to demonstrate this theoretical power this philosophy enables, a magnificent consequence needs to be manifested along with an equally magnificent solution. Global warming provides a perfect stage on which proponents of this theory can play their part. By saying the actions of humans have caused a cataclysmic, earth-destroying scenario empowers us with a sort of supernatural omnipotence. By saying humans can prevent a cataclysmic, earth-destroying scenario empowers us with a sort of supernatural omniscience. In other words, with the individualistic philosophy that Darwinism provides, man has rejected God and replaced Him with egocentricism.

CONCLUSION

With Obama’s liberal ideology, it is no surprise that he has adhered to this notion that man is all-powerful, and that government is the answer to every problem. He will spend whatever he can to further this ideology, and he will become the biggest proponent of Climate Change becasue it fits his agenda of global unity.

Even if, in the remotest of possibilities, antrhopogenic global warming is true, and we are slowly creating our own demise, the hypothesis is still moot for most people. If you are a creationist, who are you to say you can undo God’s creation? If you are an evolutionist, who are you to say our ability to live in a warmer climate with more CO2 isn’t a necessary step in our natural evolution? Either way, you claim to be more powerful than the fundamental mechanism that perpetuates life.

Budget Deficit Not a Big Concern

We see how President-elect Obama will try to save the economy in this latest article from Reuters: Spend, spend, spend. This is remeniscent of the New Deal, an era to which he has nostalgically alluded.

Now, perhaps this will actually work; I’m not saying it won’t by any means. But the difference between the deficit which we incurred during the New Deal and this one is that very little of our money in the 1930s was owed to foreign countries.

Going into further debt with these foreign nations, especially when our credit rating is in danger of dropping, is definitely not the wisest of ideas. But we’re just going to see how this one works out… Spending more while one is in debt just doesn’t follow the logic of common sense though.

Globalization Breeds Global Chaos (Remember Imperialism)

Some might say it is hard to understand the web of initiated and reciprocal threats being posed around the world at a time when the entire world is in financial turmoil. It is an understatement to say the situations are confusing. Russia threatens to deploy missiles near Poland where the United States have their own missiles but say they are not intended to defend against an Iranian strike not a Russian one. Iran lauds the coming of a new U.S. administration then speaks harshly of it when expectations are minimally violated and then offers talks again. Israel warns the U.S. of talking with Iran. The IAEA praises the idea. China shocks the world with its massive bailout package but other European countries are underwhelmed with China and think they should contribute more to the International Monetary Fund because of their huge reserves. Russia begins to increase talks with old allies like Cuba and new ones like Venezuela. France suddenly swoops in and says the missile defense system that Russia is against but most of Europe is for is a bad thing and won’t help defend Europe. China begins to talk to Cuba. Cuba wants free trade with the U.S. And among all of this, the U.S. is telling the world that it would be a “terrible mistake” to increase trade regulation and governmental intervention, while at the same time considering putting stakes into the automobile industry. International crises within the first six months, indeed.

If you followed the specifics of the above paragraph you can see that global pieces are moving in a seemingly haphazard manner. In the broad spectrum of the global situation, though, I believe that these nations know exactly what they are doing. And in a period of time where globalization is praised as the New World Order, we see each country ultimately looking out for itself.

Of course Russia condemns the missile defense system; it impedes their power. Of course Iran wants to talk to the United States; it legitimizes their power. Of course China is going to assert themselves in global economic turmoil; it asserts their power. Of course Cuba and Venezuela want to ally themselves with Russia; it would strengthen their power. Of course the U.S. warns against global regulation; it equalizes our power among other countries, countries whom we consider substantially less powerful than we.

One might compare this time to the Imperialism of the late 19th and early 20th century. Each country was vying for some sort of global footprint. England, arguably the most powerful of its time, served its own interests by establishing the big four throughout the world: economic, geographic, military, and cultural footprints. Virtually every other European country was trying to compete with England in one of the four areas listed above. France stretched its geographic boundaries to Indochina; Spain was maintaining its cultural and geographic boundaries in the New World; everyone in Europe was trying for a piece of the African pie. The United States and Japan even got in on it later in an effort to stay globally competitive.

This was also a time of unprecedented global regulation. In countless international meetings, trade agreements were established, and lines were literally drawn on maps in order to establish geographical boundaries. Culture crossed demographic boundaries like never before, and military power increased exponentially. Throughout all of this, there were also numerous secret military alliances and trade agreements, which ultimately led everyone to trust no one.

The one arcing storyline to all of this was one comparatively small, doesn’t-pose-a-threat country: Germany. Because it was a comparatively new country, others paid little attention to Germany. But when Germany began enormously increasing its military might, nations got nervous. Germany was not able to compete as a maritime nation because of its relatively small coastline, so in order to compete in the Imperialistic paradigm it had to set its sights on neighboring countries. Germany’s military quickly became the most powerful in central Europe, and it was proud to demonstrate its claim to fame.

When the heir to the Austria-Hungary throne, Archduke Ferdinand was assassinated on June 28, 1914, declarations of war ran rampant. Austria-Hungary (a German ally) declared war on Serbia (geographically threatened by Germany); Russia (a German enemy) declared war on Austria-Hungary; Germany declared war on Russia; France declared war on Germany, and soon a free-for-all throughout Europe ensued. Every nation eventually picked a side, either the Triple Alliance (Germany, Austria-Hungary, Italy) or the Triple Entente (Britain, France, Russia). In the end, there were over 40 million casualties, and Germany was forced to accept responsibility, not only because they lost, but because they could have done the most to prevent the war.

One thing we must remember during our own era of global economic regulation, geographical cooperation, mutual cultural influence, and military secrecy is this: Those who won in World War I didn’t win because of military might, international strategy, or economic superiority. The victors in the War to End All Wars were those whose nationalistic pride and zeal to preserve a way of life exceeded the enemy’s. It was the indefatigable spirit of the capitalistic, Britain, France, and United States of America that prevailed. It was the principles of Victorianism that guided the winner’s moral compass and sustained morale.

In a time when the United States undoubtedly has the biggest footprints in the world, we suddenly seem willing to concede them for the sake of global appeasement. Due to a politicized economic crisis that gained unprecedented attention because of the election, we seem willing to abandon the principles of republicanism and capitalism that brought us to this point and made us a global superpower. President Bush said it very well in his address to the world: “History has shown that the greater threat to economic prosperity is not too little government involvement… it is too much government involvement….”

Iran’s Dreams Come True

The director of the International Atomic Energy Association, Mohamed ElBaradei, voiced his agreement with President-elect Obama’s willingness to meet with Iran “without preconditions.” ElBaradei believes that this course of action will allow his agency, sponsored by the United Nations, more access to Iran’s nuclear information, and will eventually lead to compliance by Tehran. He states that a “[U.S.] political opening will also convince Iran to work with us to solve remaining technical issues,” which is a not-so-subtle way of saying that the U.S. is solely responsible for their agency’s inability to obtain information.

What are these remaining techinical issues that they need to solve? He later states in the interview, “We are able to verify all their declared activities; we are able to verify their enrichment program, which is a good thing. But we are still not able to move forward on clarifying some of the outstanding issues related to alleged studies that could have some linkage to a possible military dimension.”

So, they know of Iran’s capabilities to produce weapons, but they want to know if they intend to use this technology for military purposes. We must look at this from Iran’s perspective: Their president, Ahmadinejad, has repeatedly called for the annihilation of Israel (who has nuclear weapons). Why would they not want to have a nuclear defense system against its sworn nemesis? Of course they intend to use nuclear technology for military purposes; who wouldn’t?

Despite being criticized during the primary and general elections for his perceived naivite on foreign policy, Obama apparently intends to move forward with his plans to meet with national leaders in Iran, legitimizing their conditions. Reuters has reported the possibility of an Obama administration working with Iran in order to fortify the fight in Afghanistan.

Ahmadinejad and the rest of Iran are probably laughing up a storm right now. “The United States wanting to work with us, the country who has facilitated the same terrorists they are trying to kill?” is what must be going through their leadership’s mind. Iran will have never had it easier. By “working with” an Obama administration they can relieve pressure from the IAEA by convincing the agency of their pledge not to use nuclear weapons technology for nuclear weapons, and at the same time, they will be able to convince the United States that they are on the same team. All it takes is a few naive and hopeful people to believe their lie.

Iran, of whom U.S. Director of National Intelligence Admiral Michael McConnell says there is “overwhelming evidence” of their sponsoring terrorism in Iraq and Afghanistan, can hardly wait for this policy to take effect. They gleefully await the day for the United States to abandon Iraq and exclusively focus its efforts on Afghanistan so they can finally facilitate their own form of government in Iraq, which they have been trying to do since 1979. This will bring them one step closer to annihilating Israel, and ten steps closer to controlling the entire Middle Eastern oil supply.
